Carteles, the sandwich shop located on the ground floor of Ravi DeRossi's (Death & Co., Bourgeois Pig, Desnuda) two-story complex, Cienfuegos, quietly opened yesterday, and here’s your first look around. The menu (viewable below) includes a classic Cuban sandwich, a medianoche made with bread fried in sweet egg, a “Sloppy Joe” made with ropa vieja, and Bustelo coffee that’s pulled with sugar water and then given a pinch of salt. For now, Carteles will be open from 11 a.m. till 11 p.m., but designer Miguel Calvo tells us that once the upstairs rum lounge opens, it’ll serve till 1 a.m. As for that rum lounge, we had wondered whether Philip Ward of DeRossi’s Mayahuel would be involved, but we’re now told that Charlotte Voisey of the Eldridge and Rose Bar will be in charge of the menu.
